I get alot of compliments about how I do my hair and figured I'd do a quick tutorial. (Ph is short for phase, and each phase is a diffrent step) I might be doing a small series of tutorials.
I use this brush set on GIMP for the detailing and use a basic brush for everything else (I really only use number one): www.deviantart.com/art/Hair-Br…

Step one: Draw a basic outline and three seperate layers. One layer should be for the outline, another for the lighter colors, and another for the darker colors. Then, use a smudge brush to smudge out the hair and add detailing. If you want the hair to be fluffy, try duplicating the layers over and over the merge them together when you're done. I love fluffy hair, personally owo

Step two: If you noticed the three slashes of red on her chest, it's my refrences for color. You're going to want one dark shade, one medium shade (which should be your base) and one light shade. You're going to take the dark shade first (If you want darker hair, do the lighter color first) and make strands of hair. I usaully set my brush to a bit thicker then a normal strand of hair. Do this all over the hair, but don't worry about getting it all the way out to the tips. That's covered in the next step.

Step three: Take your smudge tool and smudge the strands out to your desire. This step isn't neccesary, you can just leave the strands like they were and play with opacity's. This was my old method. But if you do smudge, take it all the way out to the tips but don't make it look sloopy. You want the hair to stay as true to it's outline as possible and try not to go out too much. Pretty much stay in the lines, unless you're looking for a bedhead.Play with opacity's also, if it's too dark or bright to you.

Step four: Repeat step three with your lighter color (Or darker color, whichever)

Step five: Combine your dark and light layers together, then touch up where you see fit. Play with opacitys until you're pleased. From this point, it's all pretty much what you want. I like to duplicate the layers to fluff it a bit more, then smudge out to the tips of the hair to give it a more realistic affect. Add filters if you want as well.

Any tutorials you want to see? Comment or note me c: I might be doing a join.me of a full repaint at some point this week.  This tutorial should also work very well with whatever program you have.
